3 quick Ecom reflections

Ecommerce stores are struggling for growth, but there's a few quick things I learned.

Hey Team!

This one is short and sweet. Let’s just do it.

I’ve been speaking and attending more conferences lately and learning SO MUCH. I’d put learning more as #1 but that feels like a cop out… I’m speaking at Social Commerce Summit in NYC on Nov 10th. I’ve spoken at their last two conferences and they have THE BEST speakers. Make me sound like a rookie!!!

1. Have patience in not changing things daily

The best media buyers I work with don’t change their accounts for days at a time, “give ads a chance” per se. There can be wild swings up and down.

Let your email flow run for another week or two to see performance.
Give your split tests 2 weeks MINIMUM to see how they perform.
Let new ad sets “bake” in the account.
5 affiliates didn’t work? Doesn’t mean the channel is broken, give it another 2-3 months of effort.

The most patient marketers are winning right now. Don’t confuse patience with laziness.

2. Product & Team are everything

I’d rather market an incredibly product with a crappy team. An amazing team can only sell so much of an amazing product…

If you’re looking at jobs, new product launches, let the product do the selling and make the marketing team “work as little as possible”. This is especially true in niches like fashion, accessories, electronics, etc.

Also for what its worth, in ecom in 2026 I’m seeing the bootstrapped companies CRUSH the VC backed ones… it’s cause their team and product are SO GOOD that raising an extra $20m in the bank account doesn’t help.

3. Your brand’s reputation is everywhere

You can have the “best product” in your industry… but if people talk poorly about it, you’re going to lose… ESPECIALLY IN AI AND LLMs.

50 amazing Reddit threads about you can get outweighed by 2 bad Reddit threads… so you need to stay on top of your Brand outside of your website. I recommend Mentionstack on things like this (reddit, GEO/AEO, etc).

In my experience… PR does not change perception of your brand. Reputation management is more important than you believe for the future of commerce.

These are my quick thoughts for the week, expect some deeper dives this sunday 🙂
